Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefit
The Department of Veterans Affairs provides an Aid and Attendance Pension to eligible wartime veterans and their surviving spouses. This fund can offset the expense of a senior living community, home health care, or a nursing home.
This Special Pension aids eligible Veterans and surviving spouses who need:
- Assisted Living Care
- Personal Care Assistance for eating, bathing, toileting, grooming
- Disability Assistance due to blindness or physical or mental incapacity
- Additional Monetary Benefits
If qualified, Aid & Attendance funds are additional funds. They do not replace Social Security benefits or monthly pensions.
Service Requirement
The Aid and Attendance Pension is available to veterans who served honorably for at least 90 days, with one day occurring during a period of war. Combat service is not required. Veterans do not have to have been injured or deployed outside of the United States to be eligible for this valuable benefit.
Medical Requirement
Requirement of Aid and Attendance–The veteran, or spouse, must require the assistance of another person to accomplish routine daily living activities, such as medication management or personal care like bathing. Assisted Living communities provide the assistance associated with “daily living activities.”
Financial Benefits
The Veterans Administration offers an Aid and Attendance benefit, which can help to significantly reduce the cost of assisted living care for eligible wartime veterans and surviving spouses. This benefit is accepted at Emerald Village Senior Living.
