At St. Augustine Health Campus, we believe every older adult deserves joy, freedom, and the chance to experience something extraordinary. That’s why each August, we take our residents camping—yes, real cabins, campfires, and all!
Happy Campers Week offers 20–25 nursing home and assisted living residents the chance to trade their usual surroundings for a week at a beautiful, fully accessible campground. Residents fish in the stocked pond, swim, enjoy cookouts, meet horses, and roast marshmallows under the stars. Others participate in on-site Day Camp activities—bringing the spirit of camp to campus.
This unique experience isn’t just fun—it’s transformational. Campers rediscover independence and joy, saying things like, “I felt normal again!” Many even go the entire week without needing pain or anxiety medication. It’s a week filled with laughter, freedom, and dignity—no matter their age, illness, or disability.
