Janette’s Journey of Faith and Renewal

While working as a substitute teacher, Janette received life-changing news—she had breast cancer. It was a moment of deep uncertainty, a test of faith that left her questioning what lay ahead. But with the support of her family and friends, she held on to the belief that something greater was in store for her.

She faced surgery and chemotherapy with determination, enduring the pain and exhaustion with quiet strength. Her faith kept her grounded, reminding her that she wasn’t walking this path alone.

You have to be around positive people, it was hard at first-when you’re first diagnosed, you wonder, is this real? But you just have to believe.

Finding Purpose Through the Struggle

During treatment, Janette found solace in writing. She poured her thoughts and emotions onto paper, using words to process her fears and deepen her faith. Writing became a source of healing, a way to make sense of the journey she was on. When she beat cancer, she didn’t stop—she went on to publish her book, Hell No!!!: A Believer’s Guide to Coping With Breast Cancer, which is now available for purchase on Amazon. Determined to offer hope and encouragement to others facing similar battles, Janette continues to use her story to make an impact.

You have to check yourself before you wreck yourself. Do your mammogram, do your breast exam. It’s important.

A Message of Hope and Renewal

“I found a new home in a community that embraced me with warmth and support. Here, I experienced firsthand the power of love, care, and faith coming together to lift those in need. I continue to share my story, offering comfort and encouragement to those around me. Even in the face of suffering, I have never been alone—there has always been someone willing to walk beside me,” Janette shares.

I try really hard. Sometimes I complain, but that’s okay-we all do. You just have to stay positive and find some good in every day.

Janette’s story is one of renewal, hope, and unwavering faith. Her journey is a powerful reflection that even in life’s darkest moments, light and hope will rise again. It’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, a reminder that no matter the trials we face, there is always the possibility of new beginnings.

At St. Augustine, we are blessed by residents who embody that same resilience—individuals who have as much impact on us as we do on them. Their strength and courage inspire us daily, reminding us that faith and community can carry us through even the most difficult of times.
