In Memory of Pat Gareau

St. Augustine Health Ministries is deeply saddened to share the passing of Patrick Gareau, who faithfully served as President & CEO of St. Augustine Health Ministries for 17 years and later as President & CEO of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland, for 14 years.

Pat held a special place in his heart for the ministry of caring for older adults. His leadership and character touched countless lives—residents, families, staff, and the wider community.

Under his leadership, the ministry expanded its reach, strengthened its programs, and deepened its impact on thousands of lives. Pat led with a rare blend of servant leadership, compassion, and strong business acumen, always guided by one unshakable principle: “How will this enrich the lives of those we serve—or the staff who so faithfully serve them?” His vision ensured that individuals who are chronically ill, aging, medically complex, or facing the end of life could receive exceptional, dignified, person-centered care.

Pat uplifted everyone around him. He believed in people, encouraged them, and made certain they felt valued as part of a family. Whether he was visiting with residents, listening to staff, or making major decisions that shaped the future of our ministry, Pat approached every moment with integrity, empathy, and a deep sense of mission.

Pat’s legacy endures in the compassion woven into daily life across our ministries, in the lives uplifted because of his vision, and in the community he helped build with humility and heart.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat’s family and friends and join the many individuals, families, and communities inspired by his remarkable life of service, faith, and humble leadership.

May he rest in God’s eternal peace.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Colette Church, 330 West 130th Street, Brunswick, OH.
