At St. Augustine Health Ministries, we believe in celebrating life to the fullest, especially for our beloved residents. Every year, Festival Week stands as a shining example of how we wholeheartedly embrace this belief. It’s a time when we come together as a close-knit community to rejoice in the quality of life our residents deserve. This weeklong event is a time of laughter, music, and connection. With a diverse array of events, from bingo and live music performances to adorable therapy dog visits and family fun, Festival Week brings the community together and creates cherished memories that last a lifetime.
But none of this would be possible without the dedication and hard work of our incredible staff. During Festival Week, they go above and beyond to ensure every moment is filled with happiness for our residents. Their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment make this event truly magical. To express our heartfelt appreciation, we treated our staff to a well-deserved meal from a Barrio food truck, savoring the delectable flavors and company of one another. We also surprised them with pizza for lunch, acknowledging their immense contributions in enhancing the lives of our residents.
Our volunteers are another invaluable asset, and their selfless acts of kindness make a profound impact on the lives of our residents. We wholeheartedly appreciate their dedication and support throughout the year. To show our gratitude, we hosted a volunteer appreciation luncheon, where we acknowledged the hard work and time they devote to our community. Their commitment to making a difference embodies the true spirit of our mission.
The festivities kick off with an energetic round of bingo, a favorite pastime that brings residents and volunteers together in a spirit of friendly competition. Amidst the laughter and excitement, everyone competes for those coveted bingo prizes, but the true reward lies in the shared company and the joy of playing together.
What’s a festival without music? The air is filled with melodies as talented musicians grace the stage, providing delightful performances that light up the hearts of all in attendance. Residents tap their feet and clap their hands, immersed in the joyous rhythm, while the power of music transcends barriers and unites everyone in harmony.
For those who love to channel their inner stars, karaoke night is an absolute blast! Voices soar, laughter echoes, and inhibitions are left at the door as residents and volunteers take turns singing their favorite tunes. It’s a celebration of individuality and fearlessness as everyone shines, regardless of vocal prowess.
The excitement reaches a new level with the arrival of (12) Therapy Dogs from The Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc., wagging their tails and spreading happiness wherever they go. The warm companionship of these furry friends brings a smile to every face, and their presence proves to be therapeutic for the heart and soul. The added delight of cool slushies makes the experience even more refreshing and memorable.
The pinnacle of Festival Week arrives with the eagerly awaited fun-filled Family Festival. Family members, friends, residents, volunteers, and staff come together to share in a day of amusement and connection. Carnival games adapted for residents to ensure that every resident wins a prize, delightful treats, and a festive atmosphere create a haven of happiness where everyone can experience the joys of being together. Residents spend time being outside surrounded by the celebration of life…something we all take for granted. They embrace new experiences, ones they might not have had in a while. The festival is a chance to make residents feel valued, no matter what stage they are at in their life.
Festival Week isn’t just about entertainment; it’s a way to celebrate the lives our residents are still living. Through a variety of fun-filled activities, we celebrate their unique abilities and talents, reminding them that their achievements are valued and celebrated. This year we had around 100 residents come out to enjoy the festivities. The support and encouragement from our staff and volunteers empower residents to try new activities and engage in social interactions, fostering a sense of accomplishment and renewed self-confidence. Year after year, St. Augustine Health Ministries’ Festival Week continues to be a heartwarming celebration of togetherness and joy. Through a range of events, from bingo to live music, and therapy dog visits to family fun, this cherished tradition offers residents a chance to revel in happiness and create lasting memories. Thanks to the dedication of our amazing volunteers and staff, the festival has become a reality, providing an unforgettable experience that residents eagerly look forward to each year. As the community comes together, Festival Week shines as a beacon of love, care, and genuine human connection and a time where we can celebrate the lives of those around us.
