Each year, residents participate in a toy drive which was started over 16 years ago by a member of the St. Augustine staff, by wrapping gifts and assisting in making cupcakes for students in the Cleveland area.
This year the students at Holy Name grade school in Cleveland are the recipients. The school has a 100% poverty rate, and through this drive each child will be given a wrapped toy from Santa along with a delicious cupcake for Christmas.
Theresa, Occupational Therapist, has been participating in this toy drive for numerous years and asked residents to help with the baking and wrapping as a way to work on important OT skills like measuring, mixing, baking, frosting, decorating, cutting, and wrapping, in addition to giving back to others. Residents made over 200 cupcakes and wrapped gifts for the students.
The residents have been helping with the cupcakes for many years. They enjoy knowing that they are doing something special for someone else, making for a win – win for all!
