To celebrate National Nurses Week, we’re highlighting some of our nurses within our Health Ministries. We’re kicking things off with a Q&A with Kim Kozempa, RN, our Community Hospice Nurse at Holy Family Home Health Care & Hospice.
What motivated you to go into nursing as a career? I was a Nursing Assistant for 11 years and wanted to learn and be able to do more.
What is an impactful family or patient experience you have had? Being able to connect with a patient who had dementia and aggressive behaviors
What gifts/characteristics/traits do you think you are able to share with patients and families that help during their time at Holy Family? Compassion and listening – enabling me to offer support
What is the biggest personal reward that you have received during your time working at Holy Family? Having the privilege of caring for patients and families at the end of life.
If you weren’t a nurse, what would you be? A mental health counselor
What is your favorite part of being a nurse? Teaching families how to care for their family in their home.
What is one thing you’ve learned either about yourself or nursing in general in the last several weeks during the COVID-19 pandemic? The value of patients and families spending time together. To treasure times with loved ones and go back to a more simple life style.
